Pascal-based card sneaks out while no-one is looking, and that’s probably for the best.
We may have escaped the clutches of the evil that was 2020, but that doesn’t mean we’re faring any better when it comes to graphics card availability.
Bitcoin miners and bots have long since dashed our hopes of upgrading our rigs, and with no resolution on the horizon, gamers are getting desperate to get some good news regarding GPUs.
Sadly, the debut of of the GeForce GT 1010 is definitely not it.
A puny little board based on the now ancient Pascal architecture, this card will take its place as Nvidias’ lowest powered graphics card on offer.
It was spotted on the Nvidia graphics drivers download page – no pricing or availability are yet known.
‘Boasting’ 256 CUDA cores, we’re guessing it probably won’t hold up to the 10,496 CUDAs found in the ‘slightly’ more powerful class-leader RTX 3090 – check out its daft 8K reveal trailer below:
What’s the point of this tiny abomination?
This is likely an OEM only board, as in, one that is designed as a way for cheap manufacturers to power some basic video capabilities in their bargain-basement systems.
It certainly won’t be capable of running any sort of modern game at more than a handful of frames at the lowest possible settings.
Still, people love to get the original DOOM (1993) running on all manner of random electronics, from smart fridges to pregnancy tests. I wonder if this anaemic little upstart would be so capable? Based on the specs, we’re honestly not sure…
