A company offering custom PlayStation 5s that look like the PS2 mysteriously shuts down, offers refunds, claims staff safety under threat.
While we know for sure you can’t buy a vanilla white PS5 (retailers have confirmed no stock will be available for some time yet) for those of you who fancy blowing some Universal Credit cash on an unavailable custom black PS5, there is a website that offers such a service, at least there was.
SUP3R5, the plucky start up behind the PS2 themed machines, began taking orders on January 8th, priced at $649.
However, not long after the pimped out consoles had sold out with a promised “spring 2021” delivery date, a bizarre tweet was posted by the “company” claiming their staff had been threatened and would therefore cease operations immediately. Check it out:
What exactly were the team threatened with? Were Sony’s Ninja strike force about to swoop in, Rainbow Six style, ready to blow the bastards up? It wouldn’t be the first time Sony has stopped anyone making custom face plates for the PS5.
Or maybe, just maybe, the whole thing was a giant scam designed to screw console gamers desperately for some sweet PlayStation 5 action out of their hard earned dole money.
Considering that all traces of the company have vanished, including their official Twitter account (friends of Donald Trump perhaps) we’re thinking they were out to make a quick buck and those promised refunds will be very slow in coming, if at all.
Word to the wise children, don’t trust strangers, especially if they’re offering some shiny next-gen candy.
