Colourful, Campy Stealth ‘Em Up: Deceive INC, HANDS-ON PREVIEW

Any fan of No-one Lives Forever, Bond movies, and online gaming have been disappointed by the gaming community for quite some time. Tripwire Interactive seeks to correct this wrong with Deceive INC, an online spy-vs-spy FPS.

Think No-one Lives Forever tipped into a martini glass with a dash of Team Fortress 2. Shaken not stirred (sorry, I had to!).

Tripwire Interactive, devs of Deceive INC, are known for mindlessly fun games.  From the arcade shooter Killing Floor to the viral runaway success of Manhunter, garnering praise for its originality and balls-out-fun gameplay, Tripwire is all about guilty, frivolous pleasures.

That’s why it is great to see such a fresh take on the online FPS genre with stealth-‘em-up Deceive INC. In this new IP, players take on the role of one of several brightly colored agents with unique skills and weapons.

Your mission? Decode the intelligence and extract unharmed.

The challenge? Several other agents are trying to do the same thing, and as soon as your cover breaks, they will be on you like a hungry bear on a lonely forest fisherman.

We were lucky enough to have a play with the alpha version of Deceive INC with several other players on one of the maps. And rest assured. Deceive INC is shaping up to be one helluva title.

The gameplay is accessible with intuitive controls and some surprise game dynamics we haven’t seen before. The session included fun and hilarious moments that would be great to enjoy with a few mates and several beers.

It remains to be seen whether the current game dynamics lead to sustained longevity and a large player base for Deceive INC. But we loved our couple of hours with the game and can’t wait to return to complete our mission once more when the game is released.
