How Can PC Gaming Appeal to a Different Audience?

When people think of gaming they tend to think of fighting, fast reactions, and guns. But they rarely think about the other kinds of games that still attract a wide variety of players.

Gaming on the PC is possibly the most intensive of gaming occupations – predominately because of the hardware costs to ensure you can actually accurately game with reduced latency and with good graphics. But that doesn’t mean that every game available on the PC is hardcore. To attract a growing gaming market, a wider range of options for PC gaming are available. How does PC gaming appeal to those who don’t want to play aggressive games?

Slot games are famous for riffing off almost any theme. They take something generic, specific, or very niche and wrap it in slot gameplay that invariably appeals to some aspect of their target market. So, to appeal to those who want a warmer, more light-hearted approach, some slot games reflect this with their game design.

Eyecon’s Fluffy Favourites slot game takes the adorable theme up to the max to deliver enticing slot gameplay to those who want something a little less aggressive. The game features typical reel play you’d expect from slots nestled among plush toys you might win at the fayre or carnival. The game doesn’t just take on the form of the soft toys but of the excitement that runs through the possibility of winning them when playing one of the fairground games. Many sites, like Buzz Bingo, try and capture this feeling of excitement and build communities around it so that experiences are good vibes.

Minecraft is known for the battle royale style Hunger Games gameplay that it fosters. It is also known for the zombies that sporadically attack and for the aggression with which players sometimes game. But it can be more light-hearted to appeal to that kind of player. The blocks mean that almost anything can be conceived, and some players choose to get creative. This kind of gameplay means that people who don’t want to be faced with fighting or battles can still flex their muscles on Minecraft. There have been some astounding builds based on the pixel blocks over the years.

Tequila Works’s game Rime, available on PC and other consoles, is designed to be a more relaxing gaming experience. Some refer to it as a walking sim, while others suggest it is a digital narrative. Your character washes ashore on a mysterious island and has to interact with all who live there to progress the story along. For some, being transported to another world is enough for a game. For others, this may be just a little too relaxed. But it shows that gaming can be lighter and require characters to walk and talk rather than shoot and kill.

Not all gaming on the PC has to be action focussed. Perhaps with an influx of these non-FPSs, we’ll see a wider cohort of people getting involved with PC gaming. To invest in the hardware means that the player should expect to use it for a while. Creating a wider range of games for PC could justify many forking out for the proper gaming hardware to become a proper ‘gamer.’
