Turtle Power! TMNT: Shredder’s Revenge Sells One Million Copies

If you were born about three decades ago, your childhood would be characterized by three things.

Awful hair, pizza, and three heroes in a half shell named after Italian painters. Fast forward to 2022, and the feisty amphibians are at it again with the retro fight-em-up Teenage Mutant Turtles: Shredders Revenge remake.

Using one of their three fingers to say fuck you to Marvel and DC Comics, the turtles spurn today’s heroes as they remind us that this planet’s real stars are far too green to be human.

And they’re winning out against every other hero as TMNT: Shredders Revenge has just hit the one million copies sold mark after just one week. FAR OUT, DUDE!

Shredder’s Revenge, developed by Tribute Games, has seen runaway success far greater than many other retro remakes, with a 92% approval rating on Steam.

But why do people love it so much? Co-op mode? Familiarity with the brand?

The desperate clingings-on of nostalgia from a quickly ageing generation of millennials? Everyone loves pizza so much that eating it just isn’t enough; they have to also play pizza? Don’t ask us, maybe all four!

One thing’s for sure. Totally tubular Tribute Games co-founder Jean-Francois Major certainly has his own story on why the game is awesome. He calls it “the ultimate celebration of a chapter in TMNT history that means the world to us.”

Francois adds, “it’s been wonderful to watch the accessible fun of beat-em-ups resonate with long-time fans and genre newcomers alike.”

Much like April, Jean-Francois is hopelessly drawn to the fantastically famous four. “We look forward to watching players continue discovering the easter eggs we’ve hidden throughout the game while chaining together some bodacious combos.”

So there you have it. Here’s to a million more copies of pixelated pizza and retro fight-em-up goodness.

Now grab the game because Shredder’s not gonna kick his ass with Japanese melee weapons and super-cool catchphrases, is he? And don’t try to play the poor card with us; it’s free on Game Pass!

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredders Revenge is available now on Steam, Nintendo Switch, Playstation 4, Xbox One and Linux
